It is typically 10-16 days in length, but it is usually fairly consistent in length for an individual woman, differing by no more than 1 or 2 days from cycle to cycle.

The following charts are real examples of cycles with short luteal phases lasting 9 days or less. I think the spotting is turning into AF, making my LP only 9 days. Last month it was 12 days, I don't know what to make of this. I'm 32 and have just started trying to conceive. This is my first month formally charting and it looks like I have a short luteal phase of 7 days.
If things stay the same (late ovulation/ short lp) does this mean I'm going to have problems conceiving??
Have been off the pill for about 6 months - I know this can affect things but the last two cycles have felt 'normal' to me.
Reassuring words needed please - has anyone got pregnant with a short cycle like mine? Or am I going to need to call in outside help??
Thanks

9-10 day luteal phase, progesterone good??

posting this in relation to my question posted on the ttc board earlier today

TTC Cycle #9, only 9 day LP :(

AF started Sunday March 4th. In fact, it's really short. I usually started spotting around 5-6 dpo. After reading the book, I started taking Vitamin B6-100 mg around mid-cycle of my last cycle, it seems like my LP is even shorter...I started spotting (pink the first 2 days and brownish after, until now!) not sure what I should do. Help!

Today I had my well-woman exam with my midwife, and we went over my charts. I asked her if I should be concerned about my LP being 9-10 days right after getting off BCP, and if I should watch for it to lengthen. And here's where she told me something I think everyone who worries about their LP should hear:
Unless you are having problems getting pregnant, a short LP isn't an issue!!! She told me that since I got pregnant before, she's not concerned. She said if I try for our next one for a year or more and am unsuccessful then we'll worry. BUT she said it is absolutely NOT true that your LP needs to be 12+ days in order to get a BFP. (How else would you explain the folks who get a BFP at 9dpo?) I just wanted to urge everyone who is just starting out on the TTC journey to not stress, to not read too much into your charts, and to not necessarily pay attention to the posts by people who are having trouble conceiving. Every woman is different, and until you experience a fertility problem, DO NOT WORRY!!! Good luck to everyone TTC - as my midwife said "When you're ready, thrown caution to the wind, and just have a lot of sex!" :) Baby Dust to you all!
