This page explains how you can check which version you are on and how you can automatically determine whether an update is available.

 
Checking Your Version 

When you first start Ovusoft an introductory "splash" screen is displayed that shows the "major" and "minor" version numbers.  For example, the latest version you will see on your splash screen is Version 1.6.  If you have anything below that, then you know you need an update.

The splash screen provides basic version information, but it doesn't tell the whole story.  Version numbers are made up of three numbers, separated by periods: major, minor, and revision.  For example, the latest version at the time this web page was written was 1.6003.1204.  Breaking it down, we get this:

Major: 1
Minor: 6003
Revision: 1204

To determine your complete version number, you can do the following:

1. Start Ovusoft.  Get to the main screen and click Help in the menu, then select About Ovusoft from the list of options, you will see something similar to the following:

2. From the About Ovusoft window, click the Version button.  This will bring up the Ovusoft Version Information window, which will look similar to the following (without the red box around the text, however):

The complete version numbers for each Ovusoft-authored component is found in text box in the Version Information window.  The one we are interested in is on the first line, after "Ovusoft Application = ".  This is the complete version number for your copy of Ovusoft.  Note the Check for Update button on this screen, it lets you automatically connect to our website to determine if you have the latest version.  The Debug mode check box is used to generate log files of all of the program functions. It should only be checked if you are advised to do so by Ovusoft support staff, otherwise you can create very large files and consume disk resources on your computer without even knowing it!

Click the OK button to exit the Version Information window and click it again on the About window to return to the main Ovusoft screen.

 
Checking for Updates

You should check occasionally for program updates, as we periodically release minor updates that add new features and correct anomalies ("bugs") when they are discovered.  Typically, program updates are relatively small and do not require long download times.

It is very easy to check for updates, simply click the Check for Update button on the Version Information window as indicated in step 3 above (follow steps 1 and 2 to bring up the window).  You can also simply click Help in the main Ovusoft menu, then select Ovusoft on the Web from the list of options to bring up a sub-menu, and then select Check Website for Program Update from the options on that menu.

Regardless of which method you use, you will be taken to a web page that tells you quite plainly whether or not you need to update your software, and if so, what changes you will find in the latest release and how to download and install the update.
