1. How do I get Ovusoft to calculate and display a coverline?

If your fertile phase has begun, Ovusoft will automatically calculate and display a coverline on both the PC-based Chart and you WebChart, if you publish it.  The coverline will be drawn once you are close to the time of ovulation, or once your signs indicate it.  Additionally, once drawn, your coverline may change as you enter more temperature data, click here to learn more.

2. I can't see anybody else's WebCharts.

The WebCharts feature requires that you have a Java-enabled browser.  You should first test your browser by visiting this page:

../library/javatest.asp

Due to numerous problems in the way the Netscape browser handles Java applets, Ovusoft recommends that WebCharts users view their charts using Microsoft's Internet Explorer.  We have tweaked these Java applets as best we can to handle Netscape inconsistencies, but there are no guarantees we can get it to work in all cases.

(To learn how to make Internet Explorer your default web browser, click here.)

To turn on Java capabilities in Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer and click Tools in the menu that runs across the top, then select Internet Options.  This will open up a tabbed window.  Click the Advanced tab; this will display a bunch of options in a scrolling area.  In the options box, scroll down to the Microsoft VM option and make sure the option JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled is checked.  Then click OK.  If you made changes, Windows will require a restart before they can be applied.

Once you've rebooted (if required) you should be able to see the WebCharts in your Internet Explorer browser.  Visit the following page to test it:

http://www.tcoyf.com/forum/chart.asp?id=spongebob

If you can see the chart, then Java is now working on your browser.  If not, you may need to download an update to the Java Virtual Machine (VM).  Click this link for Microsoft's Java VM, note that you will need to open it after downloading in order to begin the installation:

msjavx86.exe

To get the latest version of Internet Explorer, visit the following website (downloading and installing the latest version DOES NOT update your Java VM, so you will have to do that, as well):

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm

If you are using an Apple Macintosh, the Java VM is provided by Apple, not Microsoft, Netscape, or Opera.  If you are using a Mac and either cannot see WebCharts or they don't display correctly, you need to update your Apple "Macintosh Runtime for Java" which is also simply known as "MRJ" at the Apple website.  If you are using Mac OS X, then you should download the MRJ from the following page:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/java131.html

If you are using Mac OS 9, then you should get the MRJ from here (don't just copy the link below, click it, as it's been shortened to fit on this page):

3. I can't publish my own WebCharts.

If your browser just displays an empty gray box after publishing, then you need to enable Java.  Click here to learn how to do this.

Sometimes your browser will open and attempt to publish, but you might see an error message in the box within your browser:

  • Incorrect password:  This indicates that you have entered the wrong password while running the WebCharts Publishing Wizard, or that you have not yet signed up for a myOvusoft account here at Ovusoft.com.  If you know that you have already signed up as a myOvusoft user, then confirm that you have entered the correct password before publishing.  NOTE:  Downloading and/or buying Ovusoft does not automatically enroll you in the myOvusoft are of our site, you must sign up at http://www.tcoyf.com/mytcoyf/default.asp in order to do this -- it's FREE and easy, just click the link.
  • Server error:  If you get this error it generally indicates that your browser could not connect to the Ovusoft.com server.  Make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again.  If you are connected to the Internet and are trying to publish at a busy time of day (such as between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. EST), then try again in the afternoon, when it is less busy.

If you are using AOL or Netscape as your browser, you should try making Internet Explorer your default browser and try publishing with it, instead.  Click here to learn how to do this.

If the problems persist after using Internet Explorer to publish, then send an e-mail to  support@ovusoft.com with the following information:

1) Which version of Windows you are using (Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP).

2) Your Ovusoft version number, click here to learn how to find your version.

3) The web browser and version number that you are using.  To determine this, open your browser, click Help in the browser menu, then About...  You will see the browser name and should be able to find the version number here, as well.

4) What is the location where Ovusoft says your chart may be found?

5) The text of any error messages your are receiving from your browser or Ovusoft.

4. What does "Peak" signify on the Chart and WebChart?

The "peak" day is identified as the last day of your most fertile cervical fluid (or vaginal sensations), and is typically the most fertile day of your cycle occurring just before ovulation.  It also has the best quality cervical fluid for the sperm to reach the egg.  It is highlighted with a "P" on the Chart and WebChart, and the days following it are dry-up days sometimes numbered from 1 to 4.  These are days of decreased fertility.  The first day after peak may also be highly fertile, but the days following this are generally infertile.  This assumes that you have recorded your cervical fluid correctly and have not misinterpreted it in any way.  Because such interpretation is subjective, the peak day may not always correspond with days of highest fertility.

Peak is used in the algorithms which estimate your ovulation date and when you have entered post-ovulation infertility.  There are typically 2-4 dry-up days required (the numbered days after "P") in conjunction with a thermal shift to make a definitive estimate of ovulation.

5. What does "Temp count" signify on the Chart and WebChart?

To identify ovulation using Fertility Awareness, there must be at least three days with temperatures above the coverline.  The coverline is drawn 0.05° Celsius (0.10° Fahrenheit) above the highest of the preceding six temperatures (with some unusual temperatures eliminated using the Rule of Thumb or by disturbances).  The temperatures which are above the coverline are part of the "temp count".  Once you have at least three of these, ovulation may be inferred.

6. I'm having problems publishing with AOL and/or Netscape and would like to use Internet Explorer as my default browser as recommended, how do I do this?

Most Windows PCs come with Internet Explorer ("IE") pre-installed, so you probably already have it on your system.  To make it the default browser, you first need to open it.  You should be able to find it in your Start menu under Programs or on your desktop.  If not, click Start and then Run, type iexplore.exe in the Open box, then click OK.

Once IE is open click Tools in the menu, then select Internet Options.

Click the Programs tab and check the option at the bottom that says Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser.

After confirming this option is checked, click OK.  Then exit IE.

You will only have to do this once.  After this IE should be the default browser and Ovusoft should use it each time it publishes.  Should you use AOL or Netscape again and it asks if you want to make it the default browser, just tell it No.
