Hi everyone, well this was my third and final month of clomid 100mg.  And started spotting and temp drop today!! My dr. only gave me three months of clomid at a time.  Is it true that clomid stays in your system for another cycle??  What would the next step be??  I heard that if clomid doesn't work then femora is another option.  But I think we are going to take a month off.  Not sure, just running out of hope!  Just wondering what would you do??

It is wise to take a break after three cycles.  We did four in a row (no success), took one month off, then five in a row (no success) then I took six months off and messed around with other herbs and treatments (surgery for fibroids/endo) and did one last ditch effort the following month and lucked out.

I had two different doctors that were both willing to do six cycle treatments (vs the normal three).  But if I had to do it again, I would probably take a break after the third cycle at least for one cycle to get your cm back on track, for me it reduced it drastically.

Some women (including myself) have tried soy as a natural substitute for clomid.  There is info about it in the alternative thread I believe.

Sorry it didn't happen for you but try not to lose hope.  Baby Dust

With my first, my doc let me do 5 cycles of Clomid.  I was not ovulating on my own at all for more than a year and a half  before that.)  Got pregnant on Clomid with the 5th and last try.

With our second, I took Clomid for 3 months, then decided I wanted to take a break from it for the summer.  (I was too moody!) I still kept track of my cycles (very long, 44 days), and what do you know? Got pregnant right away without it.

Third time, didn't need Clomid at all.  Got pregnant without really trying.

I'd say, take a little break from it, keep track of your cycles and still give it a try.

I know how tough it is for you right now.  I used to think I'd never have a baby on my own, but now look.  Two and one on the way!

Good luck!

Oh ladies!! Thank you so much for  your support!  I really feel down and out right now.  When all my friends are on there second baby and here I am still trying to have one!!  I do feel like I am giving up hope, and questioning everything.  I think taking a month off will be good for us!!  Maybe in two months I will have a better outlook on things!!  Thank you so much for writting me!

I took two months of Clomid, then month off due to cyst and got PG in that month. I give credit to the Clomid even though I didn't take it that cycle.

I didn't know that you were pg, Jenchichi!  Congratulations!!!

I just wanted to comment on this comment I quoted above.  This is actually what my RE called a "runaway ovulation", and it's a very real phenomenon.  I was not on fertility drugs anymore the cycle I got pregnant with my ds#3, but the cycle before I had been on injectables and had to have the cycle cancelled (developed too many eggs to do an IUI.)  As if by magic Laugh, I actually had a strong ovulation the following month and it resulted in DS.  My RE was not at all surprised and said that I had a "runaway ovulation."  Apparently the effects of the medications (with the exception of Femara, which has a very short half life) can stay with you for awhile even after discontinuing use.

As for Clomid, it's never worked for me.  However it does for many many women over the past 60 years that it's been on the market.  Worth a try!  Flowers

I got pregnant with DS #1 on Clomid.  Month #4 and final.  I did 3 months on and then took one month off, and went on it for one more month (I was WAY too crabby, WAY too crabby!!  I thought my DH was going to throw me off a bridge!Stick out tongue) And found out that month that we were pg!!!!

Since then, I have had no problems, to speak of, getting pregnant!  We weren't trying with DS #2 (2 years apart) And, I'm pregnant with #3.  We had to try for about 8 months, but it worked without fertility!!  So it forsure can happen, just keep positive, as hard as that is at times!! But you can do it! Have faith!!!!

Hugs to you, for knowing just what you're going through!!

I also got pregnant while taking a break cycle from Clomid!  I guess there really is something to the whole runaway ovulation!!

I do believe it stays in your system for a while (a month or two?)... I don't know the half life, but some once broke it down for me... just fyi.

Clomid on it's own never worked for me. I tried a total of 5 cycles of just clomid...2 when TTC ds#1 and 3 when TTC ds#2.  However, both times, when I paired clomid with IUI I got pregnant.  It's worth a shot if  the clomid alone isn't working for you.  The IUIs were really fairly inexpensive and easy.  Have you had an HSG??

I got pregnant 3 times on Clomid, at 38, 39 and 41.  The first one was a m/c, but the other two are my kids.  I used IUI for the second two and I think it helped, but I was able to get pregnant without IUI as my m/c month proved.  (The m/c had nothing to do with my protocol)  My doctor will only do 3 months of Clomid at a time and then wants a break.  I think it's smart to switch it up and try Femara, *if* you were stimming well on Clomid but not getting pregnant.  If you were not producing good follies on Clomid, I would move to injectible meds if age is a factor.  It age isn't a factor, give the Femara a shot.

Good luck.  I see you're sitting out for now.  Sometimes that's when it happens.  You just never know.  :)

Oops, I see age is not a factor for you, so yes, I would try the Femara.  Good luck!

Hi mbest,

First off welcome!! :)  Well my DH's SA results were above and beyond good!  We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility.  If you see my siggy you will see that we went through so much to finally decide to do IVF and a result of a beautiful baby girl growing right now!!  I hope the clomid works for you guys!  They say anything above 10mil is good enough to get to that egg!!  Good luck!!
