Well, we kind of did Shettles as far as timing, but it was accidental. With DS 2 I know he was conceived from the day before/day of ovulation. DS 3 was a result of about 5 days pre-O, as was this boy. So, they "should have" been girls. They are not.
It's a crap-shoot, IMO. You get what you get and not much can be done to influence one gender or the other, although my step-grandmother swears a vinegar douche (gross) will result in a girl.
While we weren't trying for a specific gender ever, all 3 of my babies have been Shettles-affirming. I have a boy and a girl, and now and pg with another boy. Just what Shettles would have predicted!
I'm with Tami...I don't know about DS#1 because we were TTA and on BCP when we got pg, but with DS #2, we DTD either 4 or 5 days prior to O...I was sure he would be a girl, but nope!
I agree with PP--I believe God sends you what you are meant to have, and I don't put a lot of stock into Shettles or any other gender-picker method. They just don't seem to be realiable.
Personally I think this shettles is a load of boo-hockey.
DD1: Only BDed on day before o and day of o.
DD2: Only BDed on 4 days before o.
DD3+4: BDed on days 3,2,1 before o.
1st was not trying/not avoiding and not charting, so I don't know when was in relation to O.
Second pregnancy we had several days leading up to O and Oday - resulted in twins.
Third pregnancy was a M/C (don't know the gender, lost the baby @ 8w2d)
This pregnancy we had every other day ~ CD 9,11,13, and twice on CD 14 (which was O day) - he's all !
I think Shettles is not at all reliable. Like PPs have said, you get what you get... but honestly, I think the Ph of the vaginal environment has a LOT more to do with swaying what gender you conceive than timing. I was eating a much more alkaline diet when I got pregnant with my son than I was when I got pregnant with my daughters .

With my dd we bd every day for 4 or 5 days before I ovulated
With ds we bd the day before so that would be shettles affirming
Not sure yet what we're having with this one.
I have never swayed for a gender, at all, but have been aware each time of my cycles. With each of my boys, they were conceived on the day of ovulation. With my m/c (a baby girl), she was also conceived day of ovulation. My daughter was conceived within a day of ovulation. So, technically according to shettles we "should have" had all boys and instead it came out 50/50.
I agree with Rebecca as well... I think shettles is outdated and unreliable. I have also read that it has more to do with pH than anything else. But I also think it's mostly just a crapshoot.
If you are interested in swaying, look around the forums on ingender. The ladies there are very knowledgeable and helpful. I did not sway, but I love to look at the u/s gender gallery there- it's fun to try and guess genders.

BDing every single day resulted in a for us. This falls right in line with Shettles but from what I've read others say on these boards I don't have much faith in the method.

We are a BFing, delayed/selective vaxing, CDing, and BWing kind of family.
TTA until 2011ish, maybe longer: My Chart
3 months & still trekking on!
We have never tried for a specific gender, and DD2 and DD3 could definitely have gone either way, as far as the Shettles Method is concerned, but DD1 should have been a boy hands-down. We didn't even DTD until a few hours after ! But, then again, it doesn't claim to be right 100% of the time.
This time our timing should indicate a boy, but time will tell...
I'm so mad at the Shettles method! I followed it to a T and I BD 4 days before O and I did the douche ect ect and I'm having a son! I BD the day of my +opk with my DD and conceived her....I guess we really get what we get!

The only research to ever validate Shettles' theory was performed by Shettles himself. That says a lot.
In fact there has been more research lately that shows that girl sperm are not in fact slower, are not hardier, and do not live longer than boy sperm......and that is the basis for his theory.
FWIW, my oldest son is a Shettles opposite (were were not TTC) and I have a niece that resulted from only the day before ovulation and the day of...Shettles boy timing.
Frankly I'm irritated that it's in the TCOYF book. It shouldn't be. It may work for some, but let's face it...with a 50/50 chance of either gender (well, almost...51% boy and 49% girl), then obviously it will work for some people.
I also believe you get what the good Lord sends you. He doesn't make mistakes. Having a daughter would be wonderful, but I am very well suited for little boys. It's fits me.

Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is permanent.
I've been doing some research on the ingender forums lately because we are going to TTC again in August and would like to to try and sway for a girl. Here is a post about the Shettles method I found interesting. There are so many crazy things you can do to try and sway for a boy or a girl even though I know it's probably a crapshoot.
Had we been Shettles-ing, I'd say no. We DTD 4 or 5 days before (o), which should mean girl...we have a beautiful DS!

Wow some posts on those ingender forums are disturbing to say the least. Talk about taking the gender swaying or gender disappointment waaaay to far. Some people can't have any kids.... no matter what gender... and would just be thankful to be able to conceive.
Wow, I don't mean to offend anyone, but WOW! I looked on ingender at the Extreme Methods (At home) forum--I think that's what it's called. That was crazy! These people are really serious aren't they? My husband would be so freaked out if I saved his semen and put it in some kind of little home-made contraption! Just the idea of the look on his face is making me !
GL to all of you who are trying to sway!

We BD'd 3 days before O with our first and she is a girl. We're expecting another girl now and I think we BD'd at least two days before O, but I wasn't keeping track as well the second time. So I guess it has worked for us both times even though we weren't trying (we BD'd and then I went out of town both times!
The thing you have to remember about shettles is that it doesn't claim to be 100% effective. I think it supposedly increases the chances from 50/50 to 60/40 or so.
I've known people who swear by Shettles method, (two aunts, an NFP teacher, and a few friends) but I don't personally believe it. I've also known 2 people who did the sperm-spinning thing w/ artificial insemination, one got her girl and one did not. That's 50:50 - and very expensive.

I paper-chart, but I loaded a couple of my interesting charts to share:
my charts (triphasic pregnancy and post-partum)
Yes I TOTALLY agree there is some crazy stuff on there that I would never do! I'm just going to try to eat a diet that is high in magnesium and calcium and that's the extent of of it. If I had another boy I would be perfectly happy, so I'm not willing to try any of that crazy stuff! I peeked over at the gender disappointment forum once and felt sick reading it so I haven't been back to that part again.
Shettles is a sham. Half the people who use it will say it worked. That's because 50% of the time, you get what you think you will. I used the same method (Clomid with IUI on O day) for both children and got one of each.
Erin B: I'm so mad at the Shettles method! I followed it to a T and I BD 4 days before O and I did the douche ect ect and I'm having a son! I BD the day of my +opk with my DD and conceived her....I guess we really get what we get!
I say this with kindness, but I have read a few of your posts over the last week or so and I really hope you will get some counseling before your son arrives to help you grieve your little girl and prepare for the idea of a boy. He's coming and he's going to need a mom who loves him just the way he is and wouldn't change a thing.
(and really, he deserves a blue pregnancy ticker, don't you think? )
