Hello Ladies-just wanted to find out what your experience was in using Mucinex vs. Robitussin for help with increasing EWCM. I normally have a decent amount of EWCM around the time of ovulation but thought, well, you can never have enough of it, so if I could increase it, that would improve our chances of success with the “sperm meets egg” plan.
I took Mucinex extended release (but not Mucinex DM) prior to when I expected to ovulate and it actually seemed to decrease the amount of EWCM that I normally have. I’m not a huge water drinker, but I did increase my normal fluid intake while I was taking it (based on info I’ve read on the boards).
My question, I guess, is did anyone else experience this too? I know that it won’t create EWCM for you but rather thin out what you already have. In my experience, it actually seemed to decrease the amount I normally have. I actually had more days dry and sticky CF than ever before.
Also, has anyone tried both Mucinex and Robitussin (on different cycles, of course) and noticed that one was more effective than the other? I’ve also heard the EPO helps with CF but that it can also delay ovulation, so I'm too nervous to consider that as an option.
Any advice you can provide is much appreciated! Thanks and good luck!!
Mucinex and Robitussin are the same medicine, the only difference is that one is a pill and the other is a liquid. I just started taking Mucinex so I don't have much to report yet, but I've heard good things so I am hopeful!
It didn't do a thing for me.
It doesn't increase CM, it just thins what you already have. I'm guessing I just don't have any to thin out.
I tried EPO this cycle but it just made me spot and go annovulatory. I'm never taking that again, what a mess.

Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is permanent.
I tried Robitussin for 2 cycles and the 2nd cycle is when I got my BFP using it. This may be too much information, but I always have a ton of EWCM, but it's pretty thick. The Robitussin definitely helped thin it out and I think gave those swimmers more of a chance. But I'm pretty sure it won't increase your CM...
I think mucinex helped us too. I had my DH take it too! Like PP, my EWCM was thick and gel-like. His SA showed he had slightly increased viscosity and he had some motility issues so I think both of us taking it made it easier for the little guys to swim up. I'll be 28 weeks PG tomorrow!
As far as the difference between Robitussin and Mucinex, I didn't try both so I can't give you any personal insight on that.
Good luck!
Both are guafenesin, for both you need to make sure that you are taking one with that as the ONLY active ingredient. As the Robitussin comes in many forms, pill, liquid, long or short acting you may need to experiment. The Mucinex I have only seen in a long acting pill form. Your issue may be dose related or timing related. If you were not taking the max dose (2 every 12 hours) or there is not enough being releaed at any given time for you you may not notice a difference. It should not dry you up. You do need to drink at last 8 ounces of non carbonated and non caffeinated beverages along with it and supplement after taking it with extra fluid as well. Water is the best but juice, milk, herbal teas count as well. For you it may be that you need the 4 hour liqiud or pill taken 2 hours before BD to see an effect and as long as the effect is occuring in your cervix at the neck it doesn't matter if you see it or not.
