Hello Ladies-first off, I just want to apologize for what I expect will be a long and rambling post!

I've always heard that my mom has a “short window of fertility.”  Just to give a bit of background, my mom was 28 when my parents were married  (in 1971) and 32 when she had me (in 1976).  She and my dad tried for 4+ years before conceiving me (naturally).  Other than the “short window of fertility” I’ve never heard a formal diagnosis.  Related to the “short window,” I have heard that instead of having 12 to 24 hours of high fertility after ovulation, she had something like just a few hours.  In all the information I’ve read, I can’t seem to find anything that describes this.

My mom remarried and didn't have any more children with my stepfather and all I ever heard was that she was under “stress” and wasn’t able to get pregnant.  I don’t know if this was related to the “short window” or something else.

Supposedly, there was an article in LHJ that gave advice on getting pregnant if you’d been trying for a long time without success and she followed it.  My dad just said that they had a lot of BDing a lot at odd times (sometimes EOD, sometimes multiple times a day, etc depending on the cycle day) during the cycle where they finally conceived me. I have no idea if she tried this “method” again to TTC another child.

What I think she may have had is a late ovulation (CD20+) and this was before the time of OPKs and probably just at the early stages of FAM, so she wasn’t able to successfully pinpoint when she was ovulating in order to time intercourse really well.

I’m just curious if any of the wonderful ladies who post on these boards may have a clue as to what this could have been.  I know that fertility issues aren’t normally genetic, but I’m just trying to figure out what this could have been.  I’m not really close to my mom and my dad’s memory isn’t really clear on this topic.  I’ve always been very nervous that I would have issues and now that we’re TTC, this is really weighing heavily on my mind.  After using FAM, I have determined that I am also a late ovulator, so of course, my mind is on overdrive trying to figure all this out.

If anyone out there has heard about this or maybe has an idea as to what it could have been, I’d love to hear your suggestions.

TIA and good luck to all!!!

Hi,

One thing that i can think of is that   if you dont have very much cm then the sperm is not able to live very long and so if you bd the day before ovulation and there was no cm then the  sperm would already be gone by the time ovulation occured. to get pregnant in this case you would have to time bd just right so that the sperm was able to fertilise the egg. Sometimes eggs dont live very long so the fertiltiy window is even shorter. There are things you can do to improve the quality of the egg and the quality of cm. There are lots of ideas on the complementary forum.  You can take royal jelly but you have to start on a small dose, vitamin b supplements but you have to take a complex to avoid imbalances, maca, a good mulitvitamin ... the list goes on.
