I'm going to try to switch from Enfamil Newborn to the Target Up & Up version of Enfamil's Gentle, since my LO has a ton of gas. Do I need to mix them or can I just give him the new stuff? I'm going to call and ask the company but wondered what others' experience has been?

ETA: The company said it depends on the child. Not much help. How do I know how my child will react if I have never given it to him before? I think I'm just going to give him a small amount and see how he does. If it's "gentle" it should be easier to tolerate than the regular, I would think. Shrug

My doctor had me switch from Enfamil newborn to Enfamil Gentlease and I didn't need to ease him into it. I just switched on the next bottle. But it's the same brand....so maybe that's not too helpful. I did tell my dr that I have some Similac sensitive at home and she said that would be fine to use as well, so I'm thinking it doesn't matter how you switch. I think just giving him a small amount might be the best way...just in case. :)

When DD was born the formula we had her on had a recall, so whala- we had to switch.   And switched immediately.   She seemed to be very fussy after that, but could just be coincidence.

Just in case, I switched then again from that next brand to one I thought might be better on her tummy.... I did so that next time more gradually.  And, I think I did the same when it came time to give her milk, a gradual switch, mixing the two (starting with a thirds ratio; 3 oz formula 1 oz milk etc... changing the ratio every 4 to 6 days, once I knew she was adjusting okay to it).

On a side note, formula change really didn't seem to make a real difference in our case.  She was an entire new baby when she learned out to smile/laugh.... and then had some regression when I went back to work (and we quit the swaddle).

HTH!

I didn't bother to mix, just gave him a small amount at first. Just like when we first gave him formula, this time he also had constipation for about 2 days. Maybe mixing it would have prevented that? Oh well, it didn't seem to bother him, just us because he had stinky farts. Laugh I also don't think it's made any difference. He still has a ton of gas. Oh well. I think after this can we'll go back to the regular formulation and see what happens. I absolutely hate that the first ingredient in these gentle formulas is corn syrup. Yuck!
