I read about another gender predictor test - Baking SODA!!!!

You take a small cup, 1 tsp of baking soda and add a pee to cover soda. If it fizzes= boy, if no fizz=girl.  It based on pee becoming alkaline or acidic according to gender you having.

I tried it  around 9 weeks and mine didn't fizz at all... Would be interesting to see what ladies who already know the gender of their baby would get :)

I did this just now, because I had to go anyway ;)  Definitely fizzy, so I guess it means boy... although I've been feeling lately that it's a girl... but then had a dream a few nights ago that it was a boy.

We'll know for sure (hopefully) in 4 weeks at our ultrasound :)

I really want to try this but...

Is there a certain week this is supposed to work?

Also - doesn't the acid/alkaline of your pee change with diet?

Well, I couldn't not do this one, even though I'm a skeptic. I figured that I would fizz all over the place since my diet has been terrible and would/should lead to a nastily acidic state in my body/pee.

I peed on the baking soda...and...

Nothing. Happened. At. All.

Crazy! It either suggests I'm having a girl (woohoo!), or that 13 weeks is too early to tell. Not sure why my pee would be so alkaline if she's NOT a girl though. Maybe my diet theory is off...*shrug*

I HAD to try this, TOOO FUN Not to!!!!  I'm only 10 weeks, but I will Certainly come back and let you know if the results are right!  I had NO Fizz, which is funny bc DH has been telling me that the way I'm acting is how I acted with our girls and not the same as our boys, so we'll see if the test and my DH are right!!!

I had read on a couple sites that girl pee is acidic and boy pee is alkaline....the opposite of this test??? That's weird Shrug I first read about it on in-gender where women were peeing on ph test strips...

They stated anything above 6 was boy and anything below was girl....which would mean girl=acidic, boy=alkaline. I wonder which is correct?

I haven't tried either of these as I don't want to be thinking that I'm having one gender only to find later on that it's the other...it'd just get too confusing for me....I'm already dealing with the 'intuition' that this is a girl....but I have to remind myself that I actually don't know, and I won't know for sure until D-day.

Okay, I had to pee anyway; so I gave this a try.  All for the sake of Ovusoft "research."  Laugh I already know that I am having a girl per 5 ultrasounds now.

I got a little bit of fizz.  Certainly not like when you pour a glass of carbonated soda pop, but a few tiny little bubbles.  Stick out tongue  I had to look closely to see them.  All in all, I'd consider my experiment to be "non-fizzy."

Interestingly enough, I also did the Intelligender test during the first trimester and got a "girl" result, and that test is also supposed to have something to do with alkalinity/acidity.  They're all just for fun, I'd never paint the nursery based on either result.  (Though I know you all know that!)  Smile  I did the Drano test with ds#3 and got a "girl" result as well, so maybe it is just my pee.  Who knows.

Suppermom- what gestation was the pic of your baby in your siggy taken at?  If it is over 12 weeks, I might be able to look to see if I can see the genital "nub"..I think I might see it but the picture is too small.  I'd have to view it larger.

In ancient Eygypt women would pee over a basket of wheat seed and a basket of barley. If barley sprouted first it was determined to be a boy if wheat a girl, if neither it indicated she would not bear any child. In the 60's research proved that urine from a pregnant woman did promote growth about 70% of the time in grains but the urine of non pregnant women and men didn't support any growth. It is suspected that higher levels of estrogen are responsible. Interesting aside In 1978 when the first E.P.T. became avaiable to the American market (Predictor, ACU-TEST and Answer also had approval from the FDA) the test took two hours and involved using a vial of purified water, atest tube containing among other things sheep red blood cells, a medicine dropper and a plastic support for the test tube with an angled mirror on the bottom.... how far we've come.

suppermom:

ThreePrinces, i t was 12w2d :)  I ask the tech and she said after 14weeks :(  Do you think she just didn't want to bother?

12w2d is good for nub guessing.  Do you have an enlarged version of that photo?  I love to "nub guess."  Right now your pic is too small for me to see very clearly but if you have a larger version, I'd love to look!

I'm not surprised about your tech.  Mine wouldn't venture a guess at mine, either.  I asked and she said "Oh, it's too early."  I told her that I'd love to see the "nub."  Then, she proceeded to give me a photo with a very clear shot of the nub and she smiled at me while she handed it to me.  I didn't think too much of it, at the time I wasn't sure where to look for the nub.  Then I posted my pics on Facebook (innocently, just wanted to show off my 12 week nuchal scan pics!) and one of my friends wrote to me and said she could see the nub and it was girly.  That spiked my interest, so I posted the picture on In-Gender and everyone said it was a very clear shot of the nub and very, very girly.  Sure enough, they were right.  I am, indeed, having a girl.  I am 99% sure the tech gave me the picture on purpose.  Seems that way, anyway.  Wink

Leaning boyish.  It doesn't have a rise to it, but being 12w2d that is common (a lot of boys don't start to rise until during the 12th week)...however I see what could be the start of a scrotal bump under the nub.  That's what is making me lean boy.  Girls tend to be entirely flat with no bump underneath and a forked like protrusion at the end.

I'd only lean 60% boy, though.  Smile

I'm far from an expert, only started to look at nubs when I first got my nub photo.  You should post it on In-Gender!  *They* really are very good at it.  I am not.  Laugh

Nub guessing is only a guess, so take it with a grain of salt.  Smile  It is all for fun!!  Lots of people's guesses are wrong.  Mine happened to be right, but I see it wrong on In-Gender sometimes.

But when it comes to symptoms- I can tell you that they mean nothing about gender.  I was extremely sick with ds#2 and not with ds#1, ds#3, or this DD.  I actually had hardly any morning sickness at all this time but she is definitely a girl.  I don't know why I was so ill with ds#2...I was almost hospitalized for dehydration because I threw up so much with him.  Unpleasant.  Laugh

Ok, so I was all set to try it out tonight, but then realized that we had no baking soda!Surprise We did have baking powder, but it expired last month. Grr! After doing some research online, I found out that baking powder is about 1/3-1/4 of the strength of baking soda. Online said to just use more... but it's still not a perfect substitution... my husband kept saying it wasn't going to work. But WTH, it's been a while since I've peed in a cup, and like I said, our anatomy scan is on Tuesday. So I scooped 3 tsps of expired baking powder in my little dixie cup and guess what... LOTS of fizz.. haha. It's so not reliable, not that it really would be anyway, but we'll find out either way in a couple of daysStick out tongue
