Please help me with girl name suggestions!

I can't believe that with the endless choices of possible names for our baby girl, nothing is appealing to me right now! I feel like I am waiting for a moment of divine inspiration where I will feel like "This is it! The Name!". There are several names that I like, but none that I am loving. And the more I consider each one, the less I like them! Am I over thinking this? Am I feeling this way because I already have a girl and boy and so have already used my top choices? Here are some names that I am considering, please feel free to suggest anything you think of that seems to be a similar style (DD is Julia and DS is Oliver). Also, any advice/encouragement on how you chose your baby's name? Thanks!

Hi ladies!

So I have a girls’ name poll and then a question. We do not know the gender of our little one- it will be a surprise at birth. We have been having a very difficult time with names (probably because DH and I are both educators and always associate names with former/current students). Anyway, we have narrowed down our girl names to three. (We aren’t even close to narrowing down the boys names yet! )

Kathryn will be our child’s middle name if a girl (after my paternal grandmother), so that is set. What is your preference for the following first names?

Follow-up question: So how bad is it to name your child a “popular” name? I have always loved the names Madison and Olivia, since I was a teen and am sort of grumpy that I feel like I can’t choose those names because they are now so popular (both in top 10 of social security names). Thoughts?

Well, my wedding rings stopped fitting completely around 25 wks. I am now wearing a gold band I got as a replacement for when we went to the bars and a ring I like as faux engagement ring.

NE1 else not wearing their rings? If so, did you find some kind of replacement or are you going "naked"?

Tree Names, Especialy For Girls?

DH and I are huge outdoorsy people, and when DS was born, it was important for us to pick a name that honored that. We decided to investigate tree names, and eventually we settled on Linden for our son.

Now I am pregnant with #2. Mostly, I want to honor Mom's memory with the name of this baby (and you all have been so helpful giving me suggestions for how to do that for a boy), but I also want to connect this baby's name to DS'. Ideally, I'd love to come up with tree names that I can use either for the first or middle name, depending on the gender.

Unfortunately, DH and I are in complete disagreement as to what could be a girl's name versus what is a boy's name. I've included a few ideas below and was hoping your votes could help us settle this...very early on

Any recommendations are welcome, too....and general nature names are fine as well.

Gender determined by ultrasound question

I was wondering if anyone was ever told the possible gender of their baby at an earlier ultrasound than the 18-20 week Anatomy Scan.

I have my NT Scan next week and was reading in one of my pregnancy books that the gender is already obvious and that the baby is already able to swallow fluid and urinate.

Can they actually see the gender at 12 weeks???? Has anyone ever been told that????

Our list is still fairly long (I think!) and I keep waiting to fall in love with one and I'm just not yet. We still have a while and aren't necessarily trying to have a name picked before the baby is born...I'm mostly just asking for thoughts and just for fun I guess. Just to hear what other people think. So far we have:

Emerson (DH's top choice, Emy or Em for a nickname)

Charlotte (DH's #2 choice, Charlie would be her nickname)

Lucy

Madeline (Laney would more likely be her nickname as opposed to Maddy/Maddie)

Julie or Juliet

Amelia

Catherine, Katherine (Using this name means the middle name would be Rosalie due to family name politics...feeling "forced" makes me not want to use it...)

Danica

Elise

Felicity (I think it's adorable but I've heard from like, ONE other person that they actually like it & DH isn't really a fan. Felicia has been suggested but I'm not really fond of it)

Finley

Haley/Hailey

Evangeline (Evie or Eve would likely be her nickname)

Molly (I like it, but it means bitter which sort of bothers me. DH doesn't like it though...)

DS's name is Ethan, and our last name starts with a G and is 1 syllable.

Hi ladies! I'm sure there are all sorts of past posts on this, but for some reason I can't search the website right now and we are headed to the bookstore pretty quickly here!

I'd love to get a book my SO and I can read together, that gives info on the week to week development of our baby. Also, what types of changes emotionally and physically we can expect. Also, some really good info on what to avoid, exercise, what not to avoid.... all that good stuff! Multiple books welcome! Especially would love recommendations for the new papa-to-be :)

I really didn't think we'd get pregnant this quickly (even though it took four months) so, while I have ton's of "getting pregnant" information, I have no clue of any good "got pregnant, now what?" books!!! I do have What To Expect When You're Expecting but that is it!

Suggestions, and a blurb of why you like it, would be fabulous!

The following 3 names are our current favorite naming options for our new baby girl to be expected in January. Our first daughter is named Sadie Anne. Anne is my mom's middle name. This little girl's middle name will have my mother-in-laws middle name, which is Elaine.

Lilly Elaine
Islay Elaine (pronounced "I-La" )

I would love to hear wich one is your favorite but also, in your opion, fits best with our first chicken. If you have a better suggestion I'd love to hear it too.

Should I ask before I decide to use a name?

I am thinking I want to use the same mn (Russell) for this baby (my first ds) as my sister did for her first ds. Should I talk to her about it before I decide or even announce that is what I want? Her ds will be 4 soon, if that matters.

Background on the name: When my sister found out she was pregnant with a boy she decided to give him a family middle name...her DH's father is named Russell and so is our older brother...so she covered both families with one name. (Plus, her kid's names are very non-traditional so she wanted to give them traditional mn incase later in life they wanted to go by a more traditional name.) Two weeks before she gave birth our brother passed away in an accident. Now I am pg with the only boy we will have and I really am leaning towards using Russell as his middle name, which is the name that we will use for him around the family (his first name will be DH, FIL, etc's same name) DH really wants to use it too because not only was my borhter his BIL but they were best friends since middle school (that is how we met).

Do I need to ask my sister to use the name? Do I ask her permission or do I just tell her that this is the name I want and not give her a chance to say no?

Does anyone think this is a little weird?? My mom, aunt and sister are throwing my shower, but each of them has one reason or another why they couldn't have it at their house, so since we bought our house last year and we have a little more space I suggested having it at my house as long as it was clear that THEY were hosting it and I was NOT throwing myself my own shower . Thats okay, right? I mean, it's a little too late to change it now since the invitations already went out last week, but I don't want any of the guests to think it strange.. most of them are family and close friends and I don't think they'll care, but still.. I also thought it would be easier in one way: I don't have to pack up all the gifts and bring them home since we'll already be there! The down side is I'm going to have to clean my house for my own shower and that will be stressful seeing how I work the weekend and have three little girls who are very good at undoing what I've done, lol. DH says he'll help but DH isn't as thorough as I am, if you know what I mean.. anyway, too late to change it but wondering what you thought. Thanks!

I"m so over crying, at everything. Seriously. Tonight my husband started yelling about not being able to agree on a tv show to watch. Which I was like why are you yelling, anyways... then I"m fine no emotions about it one way or another. Until he posts on facebook that he can't wait for the day when we have a house where he can watch whatever he wants in another room. That's when I got upset. So hey, fine I'll go in the bedroom and watch tv and he can watch whatever he wants. Then he comes in the room and is like are you upset? Why is it my fault you're upset.

I never used to cry, I hate doing it and now, I just cry so easily. BAH I hate it. It has to get better right?

How Would You Pronounce This?

DH and I are tossing around the name Calla, like the lily. I now know how it's typically pronounced, but I like a slightly different pronunciation, derived from how I always thought it was said, until I learned otherwise I'm wondering if anyone else out there looks at the word and sees my pronunciation?

Also, how difficult do you think it would be to get people to pronounce it differently? If you've changed the typical pronunciation of a name, please share your experience. I would hate to make a child spend her life saying, "No, it's pronounced...."

UPDATE: So, all the posts made me turn to dictionary.com which has the option to hear the pronunciation. (Hadn't thought of it before, because I was so certain that I knew how it was pronounced.) Those of you who indicated that the first "a" is pronounced as the "a" in cat are correct. Here's the link, if you're that interested. I really thought that the "correct" pronunciation for this lily was with a long "a." But I'm pleasantly surprised by this discovery, as I really like this sound much better. Thanks!

Can you believe this? vent

A friend is due in October and when we visited in the spring I'd asked her if they'd had any name conversations yet and she said no so I teased her a bit (because for me, the name conversations are the best!!). We laughed about my obsession and carried on. Fast forward to the end of July: she was over for a visit and mentioned (laughing) that they'd had 1 name conversation. I laughed again and said "ONE?!! You better get on that!" Again, more laughter and all was normal. I then said how dh and I really like the name Gavin, we really like the name Graham but we've had so many name chats that we don't really have a list yet...just an ongoing dialogue. I then mentioned that, as I hadn't seen her in a bit, my Grandma had passed away the week before. I was in the middle of telling her about my Grandma, whom I loved dearly, and MID-SENTENCE she interupts and says:

her: "OKAY, I have to tell you this. I just have to say something...you can't tell anyone though...but I HAVE TO SAY THIS." now she's waving her hands around and stuff.

me: silent as her behaviour makes me think I'm doing something wrong by talking about my Grandma

her: "Gavin is at the top of our boy name list."

me: silent and almost in tears and thinking "WHAT THE F&#*????"

How could she interrupt me discussing my recently deceased Grandma to tell me that she liked that name the best???? The only reason she did that was because if she has a boy and names him Gavin she doesn't want me to think that she heard me say the name, liked it and then used it. I was so mad and hurt I almost asked her to leave. The other friend that was there had the same reaction I did so I don't think I'm wrong in feeling hurt. I haven't called her yet. This is the second time she's done something like this to me (the first being when i called to tell her that I had miscarried that day she said "You're preaching to the choir." She'd had some spotting that day (at 12 weeks) and went to the doctor and heard the HB so everything was okay. Well, good for you. I didn't get to hear my baby's heartbeat and never would. Anyway, WHO SAYS THAT when someone tells you they miscarried????)

Would you call her?

Oh, I'll get my u/s next week and will find out boy or girl before she has the baby....if it's a boy I am SO sending her an email with his name...Gavin!!!

I personally don't care what she names her baby so I find it odd that she cares so much about our "name list".

Need help with Middle Name

Since DH told me this weekend that he doesn't like the baby girl name we've had picked out for the past 17wks...I've been wracking my brain to think of something else.

I stumbled upon the name Sanaa and really have fallen for it. I just have no idea of a middle name...all the middle names we had picked for our first baby name do not work.

Any suggestions?

Best place for Baby while Mommy cooks, cleans, etc.?

I'm looking to start my registry soon. What do you all recommend as a best place to put Baby while Mommy does household work? While I plan to use a sling/carrier I don't want to use it while cooking. I want Baby close to me instead of in his room monitored by a baby monitor (plus our house is small, only one floor so don't know if I'll get one anyway in the beginning). I've read that Moses baskets are nice but not for carrying. Play yards look cute but are they good for newborns? We plan to use an Arm's Reach cosleeper basinette for when Baby is little and sleeps in our room, then a crib for his own room later.

I've read different things about swings and bouncers and seats not always being developmentally appropriate for really little babies (e.g., shouldn't put baby in a seat if he can't sit up on his own yet). Thanks for any help

If we have a our short list so far is:

Trinity Patricia

Brynlee Patricia (pronounced Brin-lee)

Patricia is a family name after my mom, so is going to be used if we have a girl

Which do you prefer out of the two options so far.

Our other children are Kendra Grace, Travis Martin, & Austin William

Our surname is a double barrelled name so im not sure if the two suggested options would sound too long comparred to our other childrens names?

Ive fallen in love with Brynlee and Trinity, but am open to other suggestions that go with Patricia.

DS's were going to be Stella Patricia as Stella is a less common name in the UK here, but now its becomming common since!
