I honestly must say I don't quite remember - it was sometime in the 5th week to determine how many little ones there were (we did a 3 embryo transfer).  At that point we saw the embryonic sacks and a hint of a fetal pole in one.  But 6 weeks should be good - you might be able to get a heartbeat by that point, though that'd be the earliest possible time.  Very happy to hear about your BFP and hope your ultrasound goes well.

Between my 3 pregnancies, I've had ultrasounds at:

4w6d (current preg)- just saw gest sac and maybe a hint of yolk sac

5 weeks (2nd preg)- saw gest sac and "thought maybe" a yolk sac

5w3d (1st preg)- saw gest. sac and yolk sac

6 wks exactly (current preg)- saw yolk sac, embryo, heartbeat of 109 bpm

6wks 3 days (current preg and 2nd preg)- saw yolk sac, embryo, heartbeat (118 bpm and 120 bpm, I believe.)

At 5 weeks you should at least see a gestational sac, by 6 weeks you should usually see a heartbeat although maybe not till mid 6 wks. It was obviously there for me at exactly 6 wks this time.

(I'm high risk so between my high risk doctor and regular OB I have a lot of ultrasounds, last time I had even more since I was seeing an RE, high risk ob, and regular ob.)

With my IUI pregnancy, the RE did one at 6w2d.

With my current pregnancy, I saw my OB for the first visit/ultrasound at what turned out to be 7w6d (thought it was 7w2d).

My first miscarriage was discovered at week 8 ultrasound which was the earliest I was supposed to go.

Since I am now an infertility patient, I am going in as soon as I get back to Bangkok from the US and I think he will do one to see what is going on. I will be 5 weeks 6 days. So anxious!

UPDATE 4/30: Got the ultrasound at 5w6d and everything looks great. Even saw the heartbeat! Will have another at 7w6d.

We did IUI and they did several hcg levels, then had me come in for a u/s at 6 weeks and a couple days.  I was terribly anxious and worried as we'd had 3 early losses. He said we might not see the heartbeat at 6 weeks yet and that would be ok. But we did! Most beautiful thing

Since I'm skeptical of ultrasound unless necessary (in cases of previous loss, infertility, bleeding, improper growth, etc), we didn't have our first one with this DC until 12 weeks and it was about 10 seconds long - just enough to get heartbeat, see that the cord, placenta, and brain were developing appropriately, and see that there was only one in there.

With DS - we had ones at 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, and then at just about every appointment after that. DS hated it every time - he would always try to push it off. Same with NSTs and labor monitors. He seemed so uncomfortable, which is why we've opted not to have any other ultrasounds with this child.

ds#2, my IUI baby - I had an ultrasound at 18dpiui because of bleeding, and the tech at the ER told me I wasn't pregnant.  I knew it was way too early to see anything.  Indifferent  Anyway, I went in for an ultrasound with my RE at 5w6d and we saw a beautiful baby with a strong heartbeat.  The RE warned us that it was early and we might not see a heartbeat, he was really just checking to see how many were in there.  (I had used injectables.)  Seeing a heartbeat was an added bonus.  Smile

ds#3 - 6w3d, heartbeat seen and healthy baby.

DD - 6w0d, heartbeat seen and healthy baby.

I was a nervous wreck each time.  With ds#2, because of the bleeding I had convinced myself there was no one in there.  With DD, I practically threw up on my way to the appointment because I was so nervous.  I got myself into a total nervous frenzy.  I sat shaking uncontrollably in the waiting room.  I just didn't "feel pregnant" with her and so I really believed I had a blighted ovum or something like that.  I was so surprised and relieved to see her heartbeat.

I had my first ultrasound at 8w1d to make sure we just had 1, not ectopic, check the heartbeat. They would have seen me as early as 7 weeks, but I couldn't get in over the holidays. I wasn't too anxious, as I don't have much history to make me so, but it was a huge relief to see that flickering hb! Next us wasn't until a/s around 19 weeks.

When I had mine at 6w0d the heart beat was 100bpm which was not ideal and he had me come back 2 weeks later to check it. At the second appt he told me that the heart must have just started beating that day or maybe the day before. So with a day or two margin of error on when the baby fertilized maybe it was just too early. Are they having you go in again soon? If not then you should request it so you can put your mind at ease.

Ours was right around 5 weeks to determine if the embryo was in the uterus - and it was - yippee!!! All we could see was a perfectly round sac. I think we went in again 10 days later and were able to hear the amazing sound of our baby's heart beating like a little hummingbird! Yes

Yes we were able to see the heartbeat yesterday at the 8 week ultrasound.  It made me feel so much better!  They seemed to think that as long as the measurments were good at 6 weeks not to worry....but that is easier said than done.Smile

My RE just scheduled me for my first ultrasound next Tuesday, which will be 5w3d. That seems really early! Anyone know what she will be looking for at this point?

Me (31)  +  Hubs (30) -- Married February 2007. Heart TTC #1 since September 2008. Tried to figure it out on our own for 3 years before getting serious with an RE. Hubs has great count but low motility and morphology. I ovulate on my own, hormone levels look good, never been pregnant.

After much testing, oncologist says it's not a tumor, probably a mild endometriosis cyst. All-clear to continue fertility treatments.

Gestational sac definitely should be there, hopefully a yolk sac (but not necessarily), and maybe a fetal pole. I would want to see the gest sac and yolk sac, anything else is "bonus".

Thanks AngieB! We saw the sac, the yolk, a tiny fetal pole and our RE said she even saw the heartbeat flickering, although I couldn't really tell. She said everything looked perfect. BIG sigh of relief. Heart
