I'm debating between the Medela PIS and the Ameda Purely Yours. Reviews seem generally positive for both on Amazon, but of course, there are a few bad ones. The issue with Medela seems to be mold, and issue with Ameda seems to be breakage and difficulty finding parts locally. I live near a store that sells parts for both, so that isn't an issue.
Which did you like better? I would like it to be quiet, but my office does have a lactation suite in a secluded part of the office, so the noise won't disturb too many people if it can be heard through the wall. I also want it to be fast.
Which is your preference?

I have been super happy with my Medela PISA - used it with both kids after returning to work at 12 weeks - it has held up well - its not super quiet, it does make noise (but I am one of those people who doesnt care if people know I am pumping) - never had any problems with mold.... where did they say they had mold?
My only issue which wasnt really an issue was I would sometimes get condensation in the tubes and if I didnt let it run long enough after I pumped then it dried and looked gross.... the tubing I have only been able to order online

Same here. Loved my Medela!

Two people reported mold in the tubes, and one actually found mold behind the faceplate of the pump itself. It doesn't seem to be common, but apparently milk in the tubes is a known problem.
I love my Medela PIS. Others that I tried (Ameda and others) were sub-standard and I won't use anything else, now.
Condensation does happen in the tubes sometimes. Buy a second set (they are cheap) and let them air dry between pumpings if you see condensation collecting.
Loved my Medela. Worked really well, even with low supply issues.
My first Ameda broke after a few months, but they replaced the motor and the second one has held up pretty well. I especially liked that it was a closed system so no milk or anything could get in the tubes or motor like it can with the PIS. I also like that the suction and speed are two different controls so you can customize it how you want, with the Medela it is just one.
I have never used a PIS but I did use a hospital grade Medela pump in the hospital and my Ameda pump worked just as well as the hospital pump. I easily pumped just as much from the Ameda as I did the Medela.

I have the Ameda which I now use only at home. I got the Avent pump when I decided I wanted a second pump for work and found that it actually is faster than the Ameda which is awesome for at work.
I loved my Ameda pump. I liked that it had no risk of milk getting in the tubes, and it worked really well. i always had a great supply and got 5+ oz each time.
I also used a medela manual pump to keep in the car for when I got desperate and couldn't reach a power source. It hurt my hand, lol, but worked fine when needed - and my hospital gave it to me free.
thx

I haven't used either, but the review of the Medela and the condensation in the tubes causing mold is the reason I went with the Ameda. I just put it all together the other day. It looks pretty straight forward. But it was because of the Amazon reviews that I decided to go with the Ameda. I know that doesn't exactly help you, but just know I was in the same boat as you.

i have used both since i have the medela and my sister has the ameda. they both work the same only the medela is a lot more. i ended up getting the double pump and for me it was a waste of money since it was a pain trying to hold both of those shields in place and pump. at least for me. my sister said the same thing so even though we both have a double pump we only ever use it as a single. which is fine too. i was able to pump both sides in 20 min,,,,10 on each side. and i found that by pumping one side at a time i was able to use my one had to massage the boob being pumped to squeeze out and extra ounce or so. you can always rent one for a week to see how you like it. they are a big investement and if you have to use it every day for work you want one that you really like.
Love my Ameda. I, too, bought it due to the closed system so we didn't have to worry about mold. I have had no issues with it, even with exclusively pumping for 4 months. Can't recommend it enough.

I have the ameda purely yours, and it worked for me. I too liked that speed and suction were two separate controls, I would adjust them frequently. My health insurance provides you a free electric pump after your baby is born, after your dr writes a prescription saying you are indeed breastfeeding. I had no choice in the selection of the pump, but I was very happy with it. FWIW I know a few people who have had the mold issues with their medelas, and until I read this post I couldn't figure out how the milk could get in the tubes. You'd think a closed system would be a given when keeping things clean and sanitary are so important when you have a little one.

I got the Ameda Purely Yours about a week and a half ago and I like it. We rented the Ameda hospital-grade pump from the hospital for two weeks, and we got to keep all the small parts when we returned it, which was nice because they all fit the Purely Yours too, so now I have extras. I bought it online from BRU while they had it on sale for 15% off, so the price was really good. It seems almost as strong as the hospital-grade one, but slightly louder. The parts are a little annoying to wash because of their shape, but overall not really a big deal. I think it works well and I'd recommend it.
