Hello-

A similar thing happened to me- my first 8 or so cycles after the pill were irregular, ranging from 32 days to 60+ days.  I have heard that for some it takes 3 months or so to get back to normal... but everyone is different.

I did end up going to the Dr. after about 6 months of it, and he didn't have anything productive to say except that I get an HSG and go on clomid. I decided not to go that route initially, so I read "The Fertility Diet" by Chavarro.  It is based on a Harvard study of over 10,000 nurses over many years.  It is really easy to read and amazingly informative.  After I made just a couple of changes, my cycle began to regulate itself and I was able to conceive.

If your periods continue to be irregular, you may want to see a doctor to rule out anything serious.  I hope that everything will get back to normal for you soon!! I know it is frustrating to wait!!

I've been experiencing the same thing! Ugh! I stopped birth control back in late Jan. and I've averaged 38 day cycles since then. I just started after 41 days (that was my longest). I sure hope this evens out soon. I never dreamed it would take this long to become regular again. I was like clock work before birth control.

I called my doc last week and they told me the same thing--clomid.

Has anyone else out there exoerienced this?

I have had 2 cycles of 49 days each since going off the pill. The first cycle was accompanied by nausea, breast tenderness, watery mouth, and increased sense of smell. I couldn't believe how quickly I had gotten pregnant! UNTIL I started taking tests and found out I wasn't.

An RN told me that many women have long cycles and pregnancy symptoms after getting off the pill. It's frustrating because a longer cycle feels like a longer wait for the next chance to conceive. I go in to see the OBGYN in two weeks.

The great thing is that you already know about charting so you'll have a lot of info about your cycle when you do go to the OBGYN.

Lots of luck!

Hi,

I have been going through similar symptoms the last 7 months of TTC. I came off the pill(trcyclene) last winter. My periods were so irregular. At first they were 30 days, then 32-34, then 38-40, and my last one was 70 days long. Finally i got so frustrated I did ALOT of research on Vitex and other herbal supplements.

I am now taking VITEX approx 1160mg a day - spread out over the day, along with 1000mg of folic acid, Red raspberry leaf tea.....and these are now regulating my cycle.

I've had friends take VItex and they have got pregnant anywhere from ...after 1-5 months of taking Vitex!

Worth a shot maybe???

Hi there...I am in the same boat. I went off BCP at the end of May '10 and had a 28 day cycle after that and then a 37 day cycle. I didn't check for ovulation either of those cycles. I mean, I thought I noticed more "wetter/slippery" CM at certain points, but I have since learned that those that are anovulatory (even occasionally) have more cervical mucus than usual.

Then in August I thought me and DH would try doing it every other day...well that didn't work so well because AF never came! Ha.  At day 70 I went to the see the doctor. She said that she could tell from my bloodwork that I did not ovulate that cycle. She prescribed Provera to bring on my period. I was supposed to get my period after taking the 14th Provera pill, but I got it at pill 7, so I stopped.

So now I am on day 8 of this cycle and have been taking Vitex and drinking red raspberry leaf tea to try and regulate my periods. I am also using a fertility monitor this cycle to see if I ovulate. If I don't ovulate this cycle, I am either going to monitor for one more cycle or else take the Clomid the doctor recommended.

Here's to hoping I ovulate and that I get my period during some sort of normal range....hey maybe I'll even get pregnant this month! ;)

The biggest thing for me has been to stop worrying and realize it might take some time, but that is okay. Just because I've had the age of 30 in my head since I was little of when I would get pregnant, it doesn't mean that it will be the end of the world if it takes awhile. Long walks, short runs, yoga and pilates have all been helping me to relax too.

Good luck to you!!

I was having very irregular periods (28-90 days) as well as temps all over the chart that were never consistent. Went to see the gynecologist and she took a look at my charts and diagnosed me with PCOS and turns ou I hadn't been ovulating for almost the entire I was off birth control.  Took 1 cycle of progesterone, which is supposed to force your period in order to lower the risk of uterine cancer.   Went to see a specialist to have it confirmed by doing an ultrasound.  He showed me the cysts all over my ovaries and said I would have a very hard time trying to get pregnant and would need clomid at a minimum.  Less than a week later, I got pregnant so I'm guessing the progesterone forced me to ovulate as well.  Perhaps try the progesterone instead of the clomid?
